As part of the SECPOLYC: Changing role of SEcondary Cities in the POLYcentric development of Visegrad Countries project, supported by the International Visegrad Fund, a series of working meetings of the project team took place at the Institute of Geography on 12–14 November. The professional highlight of the Košice programme was a Workshop featuring a series of lectures for students and invited local and regional stakeholders, followed by a discussion. This allowed us to uncover various perspectives on the issues of secondary cities at different spatial levels and to address the question of supporting polycentric development from the viewpoints of academics and local and regional authorities. We would like to thank all the stakeholders for their participation and valuable contributions. Special thanks go to Ing. Arch. Martin Jerguš and Mgr. Jozef Bogľarský for presenting the City Master Plan and demonstrating the use of GIS systems in its development and in the overall activities of the Chief Architect’s Office of the City of Košice. We would also like to give special recognition to the constructive contributions of the students, who are future experts in the field of regional and urban development.
The project meeting in Košice provided not only a space for knowledge exchange but also for networking. An enriching part of the meetings were students from partner institutions, for whom PhD candidates and students of the Institute of Geography prepared an engaging professional, educational, and social programme. We believe that this meeting has not only fulfilled the formal objectives of the project but that international networking will—besides mutual cultural enrichment—also generate a synergistic effect within the research field.
We also thank the Faculty of Science of Pavol Jozef Šafárik University for providing the venue and for its valuable organisational and practical support.
